So what's with this 350 anyway?

We Have a Musher

Filed under: Updates — Lisa at 2:17 pm on Thursday, January 31, 2008

Piper has chosen the musher she is going to follow for eiditorad. Truthfully, it was pretty simple. One of the first people I pulled up when searching was DeeDee Jonrowe. She’s a veteran racer and sounds like an all around good human. The reason Piper chose her was because she has not only won several awards for the care she takes of her dogs, but is also a founding member of an organization called MUSH with Pride that encourages humane care of sled dogs. As if all this wasn’t enough, she battled breast cancer and is an avid fundraiser in that area. There’s a quick bio on her page if you’d like to learn more.

We learned today that DeeDee has just won a race. Congrats on 1st place in the Don Bower 200!

Mystery Class

On Monday we started participating in this year’s Mystery Class through Journey North. Every Monday we’ll collect sunrise/sunrise data for our location. On Friday Journey North will provide us with the same data for 10 mystery sites. We’ll graph the data and try to figure out where the sites are by looking at what is happening to the photoperiod. Over time they will also provide lat/longs and then cultural data to help narrow down the locations. After 11 weeks we turn in our best guesses and they reveal the sites. There’s still lots of time if you want to play along!

Fleece projects

Filed under: Updates — Lisa at 9:13 am on Friday, January 25, 2008

Piper has been doing some work with fleece. It’s such a great material to work with, no seams and wonderfully forgiving. Last weekend she made her Project Linus blanket with a little help from Mom. She did all of the tying, but the cutting was a bit overwhelming. The blanket is pretty large and I was very proud of her finishing the whole thing. It’s very cheerful and should really brighten up a hospital room. Now I just have to get it in the mail! (The rolled eyes in the picture weren’t really about the project. Daddy wasn’t reading on demand. :-)

Her other project was the fleece hat from our Hearts and Trees Winter Kit. It didn’t take long at all. Just a little sewing and cutting. Much more manageable than the blanket. Doesn’t she look cute?
