So what's with this 350 anyway?

Bees, bees, bees!

Looked outside in preparation to plant our garden, and noticed the now familiar sight of a few thousand bees buzzing around. I started looking around to see if I could see where they were heading. (Normally about 10 feet up in a tree.) They were in the bush behind the birdfeeder! Why am I excited you ask? I have an empty 2nd hive just waiting for residents. Called Tim and he headed home. How many have you have ever had the excuse that you need to capture your bee swarm to leave work? Turns out we actually have enough frames. The old ones were decimated by these vile little creatures called wax moths. Tim and Mr. Lekas (our beyond awesome neighbor) or going to clip the branch and move them to their new home. Yeah!

Attempt #1: Do not jostle the branch when cutting it. BAD. Neither of them got stung. Amazed Mr. Lekas is coming back for round 2. :-)

Attempt #2: Sucess!

Allergy Season

Filed under: Updates — Lisa at 7:58 am on Saturday, May 20, 2006

Welcome to allergy season. I have officially reached whatever threshhold my body has using Claritin and look like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Rheindeer. I actually had the audacity to try to work in my garden the other day. A runny nose and muddy gardening gloves. What a combination. Very frustrating given we are finally have a hiatus from the copious amounts of rain that were falling from the sky and that garden is just calling (actually screaming given it’s the middle of May) to be planted. Well, maybe I should break down and go to an allergist this year. I’ll have to think about it. Going to the doctor tends to be such an unsatisfying endeavour. I just read on one of my blogs that the allergist was giving her dairy allergic child not 1, not 2, but 3 dairy-based medications to control his multiple allergies, one of which was inhaled. Boy, that inspires confidence. I’m reasonably confident my pediatrician would catch this, but I wouldn’t have even thought about checking meds for Piper.
