Vegetarian Firefighters

For some reason men get a much harder time about being vegetarians than women. It seems that unless you eat meat, as rare as possible, you’re kicked out of the Manly Man Club. Bet nobody’s going to tell a firefighter he’s not macho because he doesn’t eat meat.

Read about vegetarian firefighters.

Anne of Green Gables

For family movie night this week we watched Anne of Green Gables. I thought it might be a little advanced for Piper, but our online movie list got a little mixed up so we figured we’d give it a shot. There’s nothing scary or offensive, Anne’s ramblings just tend to be pretty lengthy and she has a wicked vocabulary. So, we watched and Piper seemed to enjoy it, but I wasn’t sure if she really got much out of it other than some language exposure and pretty scenery.

Yesterday on the way to art class Piper had the hiccups so I startled her by reaching back, grabbing her leg and yelling “Boo” to make them go away. Of course she thought this was great fun and wanted a repeat performance. In an attempt to avoid a potential car wreck, I tried to change the subject to the movie. My attempt was immediately seen through, but she agreed to play along when I explained why it was important that Mommy’s hands remain on the steering wheel.

“I liked the school part. Her teacher was nice. I liked it when she went away to school too. Her teacher told her to remember what she said about every day being new with no mistakes in it. ”

Guess she got a little more out of the movie than I thought.

Link to a very funny article. Seems the intelligent design folks are looking to emperor penguins as a poster child…

Rainy Days

Filed under: mainpage — Lisa at 7:15 pm on Thursday, November 17, 2005

Piper strongly protested the last time it rained. I mean ranted in that way only a 5 year old can. In her defense, this is probably partially due to the 7 day long rainy stretch we had a little while back. The adults were going a little wacky and perhaps protested a wee bit too strongly. Whatever the reason, my goal when the forecast for Tuesday was decidely rainy was to convince her that yes indeed, rainy days can be a lot of fun. Sooo… We baked bread, I read books between every official school subject, we snuggled up in the bed upstairs and read an entire chapter book (A Little Princess), I taught her not one, but two new card games while we had tea time and we topped it off with a great running, jumping, and dancing session to Celtic Boston Pops. Granted I was a little hoarse by the end of the day, but we both had great time. I’m thinking rain may not get such a bad rap next time. PS Solitaire is great for counting backwards practice. Who knew?
