So what's with this 350 anyway?

The Life of Birds

A couple of funny moments during family movie night. We’ve been watching The Life of Birds done by the BBC and narrated by David Attenborough. Tonight was Mating and Nesting. I don’t think it would be possible to get through those with a 5 year old without a few chuckles. Both of the notables actually occurred during Nesting despite the albatrosses get a room moment. Whew!

1. A bird was shown laying an egg. And I quote, “It comes out of that little hole?”

2. Some birds actually build nests very close to wasp’s nests to deter predators. An animal of some sort was shown trying to steal the bird’s eggs and the wasps sprang into action. My sweet, loving daughter vigorously chimes in “Sting him in the eye!”

Sparkle Days

Well, Tim caved in to my need for order on the web page. I just couldn’t handle the windy text. So untidy. I also obsessively make sure any documents I write in word are justified. I guess I could have worse issues. Luckily, I have an incredible wonderful husband who accomodates my little quirks. :-)

In the quest for Halloween decorations, Piper and I made some really awesome spiderwebs yesterday using glue and glitter. (www.enchantedlearning.com). What is it about kids and sparkles? She just loves them. After making 3 webs, she moved on to a pumpkin and leaf tracing. The real fun started when she realized she had sparkles on her hands and if she ran through the house rubbing them together she could be the sparkle fairy. She even put on her last year’s fairy Halloween costume. By the time I realized exactly what was going on, the living room and kitchen floors were just a glowing. You know what, it’s actually kind of pretty. See, some things are not worth getting wound tight about.

The Washer

OK, so the new washer arrived today. There was much rejoicing since a washer is supposed to clean clothes, not ruin them by putting rust streaks across them. This is also the super-duper front loading spin them until they’re almost dry model that uses only 12 gallons of water as opposed to 40 which warms my environmentalist little heart. Of course there would be a catch. Piper and I arrived home to see a washer, but for some reason it was not hooked up. After consulting with Tim, I was informed that something was non-standard so the delivery man wouldn’t touch it. Huh? It’s a hose. It has 2 ends. Well, 2 hours later after inviting our awesome and very handy neighbor over to help, I can clear up the confusion. The old hose was stuck to the “non-standard” (why not just say paper thin) piping. While removing the hose the pipe broke off as predicted, then after smoothing the pipe it was “egg-shaped” instead of round so it was on to a new piece of pipe. I smell sauter and they are off to get something else, so I’m assuming that there is another catch. Piper is a bit confused at the water being unavailable, but will probably be quite pleased at the prospect of skating out of bath time. Welcome to Tim and Lisa’s Wild and Wooly adventures in home improvement. I can’t wait for the wood flooring project.

Woo Hoo!

Life is good in the Wysocki household. Piper had an awesome phonics lesson today. Not always our favorite activity. OK, pretty much never our favorite. This one happened with me standing across the room with orders not to approach. We’ve had 3 lessons with 3 letter words. She then took the initiative and read the first 2 Bob Books to her dad at supper. Yeah!!!!
