I’ve been pondering moving the website for a while. Mostly for reasons of anonymity. Back when we started this before Piper was born over 9 years ago, it wasn’t really something you thought about. It’s been on my mind for a few years that we should make a switch, but a few things were holding me back. The main one being that friends and relatives have been able to find us via the site after loosing touch. With the advent of Facebook, this has pretty much become a non-issue. Emails will most likely be changing at some point, but I haven’t completely decided what I’m going to do yet so the wysockizoo addresses will continue to be valid for now. It gives me a headache just thinking about all of the places that will need to be updated. This website will be up for a while yet, but this will be the last post over here, so head on over to the new website at A Solid Place to Land. Don’t forget to change your bookmark!

I know I’ve commented on this before, but it is truly amazing how quickly the chicks have grown. Sometimes we wake up in the morning and there are noticeable changes. They are all pretty well feathered out now and can fly for short distances. We have taken the light away and they are sleeping much better at night. Whew! Unfortunately it has been non-stop New England spring rain, so they are not spending nearly the amount of time I would like outside. As they grow the odor definitely increases, so we’ve been cleaning the cage a lot. They also delight in kicking their bedding hither and yon so I spend a delightful amount of time sweeping it up so it doesn’t get tracked all over the house. Overall though they are quite funny and sweet. Sable is especially calm and even seems to enjoy being held. Tim made wonderful progress on the chicken coop this weekend and we’re hoping that they will officially move the weekend of the 4th. Chicken Independence Day! I’m pondering possible banishment to the breezeway this weekend. Piper is still having a lot of fun and especially enjoy herding them around the yard.

I found a great new secular Earth science curriculum called Science Logic – Our Dynamic Earth that forms the backbone of our studies. I’ve also been using the following resources to flesh things out since we have 4 hours:

At 2 weeks old they are no longer our cute little fluff balls. They are growing like crazy and feather are sprouting every which way. The little darlings regularly spill their food. We also spend quite a bit of time cleaning up pine shavings kicked out during their wild antics running around the cage. Thursday was the first outside foray after much encouragement (nagging) from the daughter. She’s having a ball and even catches them bugs and worms to eat. No worries about these chickens being socialized!
